Effect of Nb Content during Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of a Novel DHA Hot-Work Die Steel
Hot-work die steel(DHA) steel was selected as the research object and adds Niobium (Nb) elements with mass fractions of 0, 0.009%, 0.019%, 0.028%, and 0.038% to the steel. The influence of Nb on the microstructure and mechanical properties of DHA steel was investigated. The results show that Nb addition promotes the formation of large-sized primary carbonitrides during solidification, and aggravates the secondary dendrites segregation in the as-cast microstructure. Nb addition refines the grain size of the experimental steel after tempering. With the increase of Nb mass fraction, toughness gradually decreases after tempering at 560 ℃ and 590 ℃, and first increases and then decreases after tempering at 620 ℃. Strength first increases and then decreases with increasing Nb content. Considering the comprehensive mechanical properties, when the mass fraction of Nb element is 0.019%, DHA steel has the best performance.
