With electromagnetic brake (EMBr) numerical simulation
the semi-quantitative method to analyze the impact of molten steel to inner wall and initial solidified shell in (900 ~ 1 600) mm x (50 ~ 70) mm mould has been presented .The numerical simulation results showed that with EMBr the impact point of steel flow in mould at narrow face went up by 40%
and the impact intensity of up-flow and down-flow decreased by 86% and 10% respectively
it was available to avoid the solidified shell re-melting so as to reduce the solidification defect such as transverse crack. The commercial test results showed that with EMBr the temperature of molten steel at meniscus in CSP ( Compact Strip Production) mould increased by 5.8 °C
it was favourable to flux at surface of molten steel
