Large inclusions and ultra-fine inclusions in 304 stainless steel thin strip produced by twin roll strip casting have studied by scanning and transmission electron microscope. Results indicated that inclusions in thin strip were spheroidal compound oxide inclusions with ingredient CaO-MnO-Al

and manganese sulphide inclusion; besides minor 50μm large inclusions
majority of inclusions in thin strip were less than 10 μm fine oxides and sulfides; in contrast to traditional concasting
size of inclusions in thin strip obviously decreased
of which number relatively increased; diameter of inclusions formed in solidification of liquid steel and finally accumulated in grain boundary was mainly less than 0.7 μm.
