A coupled thermal-mechanical model including dynamic heat exchange between mold and bloom solidified shell is established by using Marc software
and the effect of radius of mold comer on thermo-mechanical behavior of bloom local shell and mold including temperature
stress and strain distribution has been analyzed. Results show that for bloom with cross section 280 mm x 380 mm the available radius of mold comer is 17. 5 ~ 20 mm
as the radius of mold corner is lower than that value the temperature gradient in local zone with 10 ~ 20 mm distance from bloom corner is larger that is unfavorable to homogeneously develop bloom shell; as the radius of mold corner is larger than that value
the greater contact normal force between mold and bloom shell leads to starlike cracks on strand.
