An analysis on fluid flowing status in a 60 t tundish with different dam structure for two-strand slab casting at Steel Works has been carried out by using geometric similarity ratio 0. 4 water model and Fluent math model. Results show that with using original structure- 200 mm height non-hole dam in tundish
the condition of liquid flow close to bottom of tundish is serious
and because of low dam
the effect of liquid lifting upward is not obvious
it is not available to remove inclusions from liquid and form large dead zone in casting area. As the height of dam increases to 270 mm with two upward 15° round hole
the minimum residence time of liquid in tundish increases by 12.5%
the dead zone decreases by 36%
the liquid flows toward surface of liquid in casting area
the dead zone in casting area and different temperature layer appearance basically disappear.
