The continuous cast round bloom of DZ2 high-speed axle steel is remelted by electroslag with argon protective atmosphere and rolled into axle billets. The composition
hydrogen and oxygen content and the number
size and morphology of inclusions in the axle billets are analyzed and detected
and the corresponding results are compared with that in the axle billet rolled directly by continuous cast slab. The results show that after electroslag remelting
the C content of the axle billet is more uniform at longitudinal and transverse direction(0.25%-0.27%C)
but average Al and Si content respectively decreased from 0.25% and 0.018% in ingot head to0.23% and0.015% in ingot tail
hydrogen and oxygen content respectively increased from0.85×10-6and9×10-6in cast bloom to1.52×10-6and 10×10-6in ESR ingot. The inclusions in the ESR axle billets are mainly small-size spherical calcium aluminate
the size of inclusions above 10 μm is few and the number density between 5- 10 μm is 0.068/mm²and1-5 μmis0.04/mm²
which indicates that electroslag remelting in protective atmosphere can not only remove large inclusions
but also significantly reduce the number of small-size inclusions in steel.
