The Evolution Mechanism of Inclusion CaO Content in High Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel During VD Treatment
The evolution mechanism of CaO content in inclusions during VD treatment was studied through industrial experiments and thermodynamic calculations, and the effects of steel liquid and slag composition on steel slag reaction were analyzed. The study found that after the VD process, the CaO content in the slag decreased by 14%, while the Al content in the molten steel had a burning loss rate of up to 70%, indicating that a intense
steel slag reaction occurred during the VD process. The average CaO mass fraction in the inclusions increased from 6.8% before VD to 11.3%, and the inclusion size increased. The ideal dynamic conditions and the evaporation of Ca during the VD process jointly trigger and were expected to further enhance the chemical reaction between Al in the molten steel and CaO in the slag, allowing Ca in the slag to enter the molten steel. Some of the dissolved Ca will come into contact with low CaO or CaO free inclusions in the molten steel and react, resulting in an increase in CaO content in the inclusions. In order to suppress the steel slag reaction during the VD process, measures such as increasing the Al

content in the slag and increasing the pressure during the VD process can be taken.
